Day 38

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is a strong contender for the throne of addiction that is currenly claimed by Double Dash!!, a game so fun it needs not one, but TWO exclamation points. Now I need to get a GBA to play it.

Point to Ponder: The Great Commission is your commission.

Verse to Remember: "Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and your eternal plan for all mankind." Psalm 67:2 (LB)

Question to Consider: What steps can you take to prepare to go on a short-term missions experience in the next year?

Day 37

I just started watching Naruto (12 episodes), and I gotta say, it's pretty damn good so far. Kakashi is my favorite character right now. The picture above was taken from a xanga, whose owner is a fan of The Wench. I love the hair.

fortune cookie of the day: A resort area will be part of your next holiday plans. HAWAII, BIATCH!

Point to Ponder: God wants to say something to the world through you.

Verse to Remember: "Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you, but do it with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15b-16 (TEV)

Question to Consider: As you reflect on your personal story, who does God want you to share it with?

Day 36

fortune cookie of the day: Your talents will capture you the highest status and prestige. Yes! I too will breakdance for the Pope some day!

I really liked The Butterfly Effect. Acting was solid, even Ashton Kutcher. It's easy to pick on Mr. I'm-dating-Demi-Moore, but he actually did pretty well in his first dramatic role. Although, there were some unintentional laughs because of him. (e.g. Ashton the handicap) The story was well written, even though there were some plot holes, but you're bound to run into one when you deal with time travel. I was expecting a much more downbeat ending, which I've read the original was supposed to be, but the studio made the directors shoot a new (and official) one. The original will be on the DVD.

I've gone back to playing FFXI again after about a week off. The guys are about 10 levels higher than me now, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Can't wait till I unlock dark knight. Dude, that sounds so geeky.

Point to Ponder: You were made for a mission.

Verse to Remember: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of teh age." Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Question to Consider: What fears have kept you from fulfilling the mission God made you to accomplish? What keeps you from telling others the Good News?

Friday, January 23, 2004

Day 35

I wish I was a genius.

Bunch of 7th graders from church stopped by and waved to me outside the store. I think Chase was jealous.

Point to Ponder: God works best when you admit your weakness.

Verse to Remember: "My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9a (NIV)

Question to Consider: Are you limiting God's power in your life by trying to hide your weaknesses? What do you need to be honest about in order to help others?

Tundra

It's mother freakin' cold in the morning.

Day 34

fortune cookie of the day: "You will find success through determination and innovation."

I'm going to make a horror musical entirely in French starring the Olsen twins and a three-headed monkey titled The Texas Chainletter Massacre and if you don't post this whole text on your blog/xanga/journal/toilet paper/English essay/what-have-you a Mongolian midget will break into your home at midnight and give you a wedgie. Is that innovative enough?

Funny wunny.

Point to Ponder: To be a servant you must think like a servant.

Verse to Remember: "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

Question to Consider: Are you usually more concerned about being served or finding ways to serve others?

Wednesday, January 21, 2004

I GIRR YOU.

doojpooj (8:27:57 PM): or just get a vox
doojpooj (8:28:05 PM): they'll be like WHAT THE VOX IS GOING ON?!

Tonight's #1 song on KROQ: "Mad World" by Gary Jules.
This vexes me because:
(a) it was used in Donnie Darko, a (brilliant) movie that was released in 2001.
(b) it's not a rock song, it's a cover of a rock song. Actually, I don't know if I can consider Tears for Fears as a rock band.
(c) I hate Stryker. He needs to die a slow, agonizing death alongside Ashton Kutcher.

I like the song, alright? I downloaded it right after watching the movie 3 freakin' years ago. Just don't play it on what's supposed to be a rock station. AND STOP PLAYING RAP FOR CHRISSAKES. If I wanted to hear Outkast, I wouldn't be tuning in to a radio station called KROQ!

Having said (c), I still want to see The Butterfly Effect. I want to kill myself.

Day 33

"Hey I got a great deal for you today."
Oh... kay...
"Check this out."
(pulls out a bag of lotion and lays it on the counter)
"That's from Bath & Bodyworks. It's usually sold for around $50. You won't believe the price I'll give you: 15 bucks!"
Wow.
"So, what do you think?"
Uh, I'm not really into this kind of stuff.
"Oh really? Well me either!"
(throws the bag of lotions down on the floor)
"Fuck that!"
(pulls out a wallet)
"How about this? I'll give you two for 5 bucks! That's a frggin' deal!"
(I look over the wallet)
Hmm. Okay, I'll take 'em.
(his face is elated, but he quickly recovers to not look so desperate)
"Sweet. Here ya go."

I had lunch with Dooj and Keisuke at Rubio's. We saw Lola, Daniel, Erin, and millions of other little kids since it's finals week and they get out early. We all agreed that we need to play more DOUBLE DASH.

Point to Ponder: You serve God by serving others.

Verse to Remember: "If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded." Matthew 10:42 (NLT)

Question to Consider: Which of the six characteristics of real servants offers the greatest challenge to you?

Tuesday, January 20, 2004

Day 32

The weekend can be summed up in two words: DOUBLE. DASH.

Solo has invited me and others to do something for Cafe Night at his church, TGSC. Can this be the beginning of Broken Movement's comeback tour? Stay tuned.

Point to Ponder: God deserves your best.

Verse to Remember: "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

Question to Consider: How can you make the best use of what God has give you?

Friday, January 16, 2004

Day 31

Forgot to post yesterday.

I'm pretty much set on going back to school in the fall to study film. You may start betting on how long I'll last before I give up like that police thing.

I'm planning on going to Korea in the summer to visit my parents. I want to go for about a month, and I highly doubt that they'll let me take that much time off of work, so I'll probably have to quit by then.

Quit job in summer, go back to school in autumn. How will it work?

EDIT: "Love Song" by 311 = awesome. Why do I have the feeling it's gonna get overplayed on the radio like "Smooth Criminal"?

Point to Ponder: Nobody else can be you.

Verse to Remember: "God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God's many kinds of blessings." 1 Peter 4:10 (LB)

Question to Consider: What God-given ability or personal experience can you offer to your church?

Wednesday, January 14, 2004

Day 30

I hate how we get virtually no customers during the daytime, then right before we close we get bumrushed as if we were giving away hotcakes with phones. Delicious hotcakes. Like the ones that your mom made me last night.

Point to Ponder: You were shaped for serving God.

Verse to Remember: "God works through different men in different ways, but it is the same God who achieves his purposes through them all." 1 Corinthians 12:6 (Ph)

Question to Consider: In what way can you see yourself passionately serving others and loving it?

Friday, January 09, 2004

Day 29

It depresses me to see how old I am and how little I've accomplished with my life. Like Grace said, I'm almost a quarter of a century! What do I have to show for it? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

It's amazing how people remember my birthday when I make an effort not to bring any attention to the fact (at least, I think I do). Thanks to all those who remembered and wished me a happy birthday. The guys got me a bike. A FRIGGIN' BIKE! I feel like a 9 year old again. And not just any old bike; a VFR, baby. I hung out with them after work -- ate dinner, had cake, and played games. Double Dash is so fun. Nonstop laughter. My evil team of Waluigi and Wario kicked ass.

Tomorrow we're going to have a mini lan-party at Doosuan's house, after work. Can't wait.

I have awesome friends.

Point to Ponder: Service is not optional.

Verse to Remember: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Question to Consider: What is holding you back from accepting God's call to serve him?

Thursday, January 08, 2004

Day 28

Remember that Simpsons Halloween episode when Homer goes back in time and accidently kills a butterfly? It results in changing the future (or rather the present) and he goes back several times to fix it but just keeps making it worse. Go here. And here. Now take 10 minutes and read Ray Bradbury's short story. Good stuff.

Point to Ponder: There are no shortcuts to maturity.

Verse to Remember: "God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again." Philippians 1:6 (NCV)

Question to Consider: In what area of your spiritual growth do you need to be more patient and persistent?

Day 27

Word of the day is: mustache. No less than three different ladies had some fuzz between the lips and the nose. I couldn't stop staring.

An old lady came in to the store today, and she was partially deaf. She took out a gigantic Motorola phone that was bigger than Adrian's head and told me that it didn't work anymore, and she needed a new phone. I showed her all the phones we carry at the store -- she hated all of them.

"They're too small!"

I finally managed to help her choose one that she hated the least -- another damn Motorola. I called to process the upgrade for her, then found out that the account was under her husband's name. Now normally this wouldn't have been a big problem, except for the fact that the said husband passed away two years ago. It took about 30 minutes of talking to the rep and telling, nay, YELLING at her (she's almost deaf, remember) to relay the information back to her to clear out the whole mess. She also had to talk to the rep herself and tell him the specifics of her husband's death -- when, where, and how. It was very sad. In the end, she ended up going home without a new phone. Even more sad.

yesterday's fortune cookie: You can always trust your friends. But not a damn cookie for a REAL fortune!

I had lunch with Dooj, Eric, Keisuke, and Simon at Islands, my FAVORITE restaurant. I talked with Deron, a server that I got to know a bit when I worked there. I saw a few more people, but I don't think they remembered me. Understandable, being just about the only Asian that ever worked there. Eric paid for us, to celebrate his getting rich thanks to Governor Schwartzenegger (FAFSA). It was fun. They talked a lot about the retreat. I wish I could've gone.

Point to Ponder: There is always a way out.

Verse to Remember: "God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it." 1 Corinthians 10:13b (NLT)

Question to Consider: Who could you ask to be a spiritual partner to help you defeat a persistent temptation by praying for you?

Tuesday, January 06, 2004

Day 26

Check out the hotties from our corporate office. These are the hardworking gals that brighten up our day by calling the store and yelling at us about a typo on some invoice from 3 months ago. The chick with the highlights (behind the guy on the right side) is Vicky, some kind of supervising manager. Oh, and she hates me. The one in front of her with the pink shirt is Lulu, a.k.a. the stooge that's been messing up on my paycheck since the day I started.

"Be yours?" Only if you promise not to ever look at me like that again.

Point to Ponder: Every temptation is an opportunity to do good.

Verse to Remember: "God bless the people who patiently endure testing. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." James 1:12 (NLT)

Question to Consider: What Christlike character quality can you develop by defeating the most common temptation you face?

Saturday, January 03, 2004

Day 25

Everybody's at the youth group retreat. At least I still have KOTOR.

Point to Ponder: There is a purpose behind every problem.
There better be.

Verse to Remember: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Question to Consider: What problem in your life has caused the greatest growth in you?

Friday, January 02, 2004

Day 24

Happy New Year. May it be less suckier than the last.

I spent New Year's Eve watching The Wedding Singer. It was deja vu all over again. At least I wasn't alone.

We also drank.

Coke.

Party. Animals.

Point to Ponder: The truth transforms you.

Verse to Remember: "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the turth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32 (KJV)

Question to Consider: What has God already told you in his Word that you haven't started doing yet?
